Opus works in a similar way to a desktop publishing package but creates an interactive multimedia publication which displays on a computer or television screen. Opus allows you to lay out screen pages of words, pictures, video and buttons. You can type onto the page, draw frames to hold images and video or draw shapes, symbols and clip art. But then you can add animation, sound and any object can have a series of actions attached so that the pages come alive and your reader can interact with them.
Opus is provided with a range of page templates containing many of the basic pages you will need, together with other components, clipart and samples so its even easier to get started.
You can test your publication at any time by running the preview. There's no wait for the project to build. Once you have finished your publication you then publish it to create a version which will your customers or colleagues will be able to run without having Opus. This can be a standalone Windows .EXE file or it can be a Macromedia Flash file or you can even create DVD-Video for domestic DVD players.
Publishing
Once you have designed your publication to your satisfaction you will want to create a version which you can pass on to other computer users on CD Rom, DVD or via the internet so that they can view your publication without needing Opus. This process is called publishing.
You can create a stand alone Windows .EXE file which you can then combine into a setup program which the user can run to install it. You can create files to go onto a CD Rom or to be burnt onto a DVD-video for playback on a normal domestic DVD player (as opposed to a PC DVD drive). You can create a Macromedia Flash file for the internet or you can create an internet version which uses our plug in technology which extends the functionality of your internet browser to support fully-interactive multimedia. You can even convert your publication to video file or a screensaver. For obvious reasons not all the functions provided by Opus are available in all these formats - video doesn't support any interactivity for example.
The fonts and other resources you use in your publication are automatically included and even the video can be embedded in the file so no-one can use it separately.
Once published you can use the distribution wizard to create a setup program or the upload wizard if you want to upload your program to the web.
